Canyon Cottage Retreat

A quiet cottage at the edge of the canyon.

The cottage sits where the last street turns to gravel and the canyon trail begins, a quiet house at the edge of the hills in Layton, Utah. We restored the building with our own hands and opened it as ADAMS CANYON COTTAGE LLC, a small family run retreat with five guest rooms, a full kitchen, a stone firepit and a yard that opens straight onto the trail. Guests come here for slow mornings, long walks, warm fires and honest rest. Whether you are here for a single night or a long season of work away from home, you will find a room that is clean, a kitchen that is ready and a welcome that is genuinely warm. The mornings are the best part of the canyon: coffee brews while the sun climbs over the ridge, the air smells of pine and damp earth, and the trailhead waits just beyond the back gate. Evenings belong to the firepit, where stories and marshmallows last until the stars come out.

Our story

How the cottage came to welcome guests

Every canyon has a story, and so does this cottage. What began as an empty house on a gravel lane became a place where hundreds of families have rested, hiked and gathered around the fire. Each year has added something small and lasting: a better trail, a warmer room, a wider porch. Together those small things made the cottage what it is today, and we are proud of every one of them. The milestones below trace how ADAMS CANYON COTTAGE LLC grew from a single restored room into the quiet retreat it is now.

The cottage is restored and opened

After years of quiet neglect, the little cottage on the canyon road was brought back to life. Rooms were re-floored, the kitchen was rebuilt and the garden was replanted with native sage and wild grasses. When the first guests arrived, they found a simple and honest place to stay, with warm bedding, running water and a view of the ridge line from every window. That first season taught us what we still believe today: people do not need much, only a clean room, a good bed and a quiet place to breathe. That belief has guided every decision we have made since, and it shows in every room we prepare for you.

    First canyon trail partnerships

We began working with local trail keepers to open clear paths from the cottage yard into the canyon. Guests can now step out the back gate and walk straight onto maintained trails that follow the stream, climb the ledges and open to wide views of the valley below. These partnerships made the cottage a true base for hikers, bird watchers and sunset walkers. We also started keeping trail maps by the front door, so every guest can pick a route for the morning without any guesswork. On summer mornings you will often find us out there ourselves, coffee in hand, walking the very routes we send our guests up.

    Guest rooms and firepit expanded

The cottage grew to five guest rooms, each with its own character and its own view of the hills. The yard was reshaped around a new stone firepit with seating for the whole family and racks for drying boots and gloves. Evenings now end the same way for many guests: marshmallows over the flames, boots steaming by the glow and the canyon going quiet as the stars come out. We also added a herb garden, a drying line and a shelf of spare blankets, small touches that make a long evening outdoors feel effortless. The firepit quickly became the most loved corner of the property, and we are glad to keep it that way.

A favorite retreat for 300+ families

Ten years after the first welcome, the cottage has hosted more than three hundred families and travellers from across the country. The guest book is full of notes about slow mornings, long hikes and fireside evenings, and we read every single one. We remain a small operation on purpose. Every reservation still gets our full attention, and every guest still receives the brass key that opens the front door and the quiet that comes with it. Ten years on, the welcome has not changed, and neither has the view from the front porch.

The trail behind us is long, and the trail ahead is longer still. We look forward to adding your story to the cottage guest book, one warm evening at a time.

We believe a stay should be simple, warm and unhurried. We keep our rooms clean, our kitchen ready, our yard open and our prices honest. We do not chase scale, and we do not rush our guests. When you stay with ADAMS CANYON COTTAGE LLC, you are a guest in our home, not a number in a ledger, and that is exactly how we intend to keep it. The quiet of the canyon belongs to every visitor who sits by our fire, walks our trails and sleeps under our roof. We built this place for that feeling, and we hope you leave with it tucked safely in your pocket.
